Who Is Mrs. Arlt?
About MeWelcome to the eighth grade at Hamilton! We are very proud of our 8th graders here at Hamilton Middle School. You continually show that you are committed to learning and succeeding in school. I am excited to get to know each of you!
Who am I? I am Mrs. Arlt, your science teacher. I love to teach because it is the best job that I can have that allows me to interact with people all day in a meaningful way. I enjoy science---I like to explore, discover, and explain what goes on in the world around me. I hope that I can inspire some of that excitement about science to you all. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy being outdoors and participating in sports. I am married, and my husband and I and have 2 daughters. My daughter Lacey is 8 years old and my daughter Josie is 5 years old. I love to play volleyball, and I play on a team in the spring, summer, and fall. I am also the volleyball coach here at Hamilton. My family likes to spend time together swimming and camping. I also enjoy reading and visiting with my extended family. I grew up and went to college in Nebraska, which is where my parents and my younger brother live. I have another sister that lives in North Carolina. Growing up in Nebraska, I am a huge Nebraska football fan! I like watching many other sports as well. I will do my best this year to make class interesting and fun. I look forward to a successful year! Sincerely, Mrs. Arlt |

Class Expectations I expect my students to follow the 5 P’s for success at Hamilton. 1. Be Prompt. That means in your seat working when the bell rings. 2. Be Prepared. Each day you will need: Lined paper Pencil or pen 3-ring "All Day" binder Assignments due (homework) Daily planner 3. Be Polite. Respect your peers and your teacher. Most importantly, use kind words when speaking to anyone else. Do not talk while others (teacher or students) are speaking to the class. Please give yourself, other students, and me (the teacher) the respect we all deserve. There are lots of times that I allow you to talk with your classmates and you work on science activities. When I ask for quiet, please do so. 4. Participate. Your participation is a portion of your grade. Pay attention; think hard, work with other students and your teacher. Ask questions if you need help or don’t understand something. Don’t leave the room-- It distracts other students and takes away from your learning. Please use the restroom during your time between classes. Be in your seat as much as possible. It is extremely distracting to me and to other students if others move around the room. 5. Have Pride. YOU are responsible for your own learning. Your success in this class depends on your own hard work and dedication. Parents...you can help! Help your student be successful in this class by... -checking in with students on a weekly basis -checking your student's grade on Infinite Campus parent portal on a weekly basis -contacting the teacher at [email protected] with any questions or concerns Grading and Assessment All grading and assessment at Hamilton is standards-based and designed to provide students, families, and teachers with a clear understanding of individual student performance. All students are expected to demonstrate proficiency on all standards performance assessments each quarter. Students will have multiple opportunities to reflect and revise errors and misconceptions. Homework: Homework will be assigned weekly and will be related to the activities that you perform in class. Assignment Due Dates and Late Work: All assignments should be turned in on the assigned due date. Work that is not turned in on time will be accepted late for partial credit; however, a limit of 3 late assignments per quarter will be enforced (except in extenuating circumstances, such as a prolonged absence). Late or missing work must be turned in by the end of the quarter in which it was due. Make-up work: If you are absent on any given day, please ask for any assignments missed upon your return. You have two days following the absence to turn in any missed assignments. Additional Course Information Materials needed: (PEAK students only): For this class, you will need a 1-inch 3-ring binder. This will be used for science only and will remain in the science classroom. Please bring this in by Friday, August 28. |
